Effective microorganisms and
grassland management

Grassland

Success in grassland management is dependent on soil fertility. Manure management is the simplest and most effective care measure for grassland. Incorrect manure management, excess lime and too high a cutting frequency minimise the yield and growth quality of grassland.

Manure treated with effective microorganisms enables increased nutrient and nitrogen availability from the manure to the grass for optimum growth.

We recommend applying the manure in fine weather, right after harvest. This minimises losses due to leaching which means a reduction in nutrient deposits deep in the soil. Nutrients that are lodged deep in the soil encourage deep rooted weeds such as dandelions and docks. However, nutrients which remain by the shallower rootstock of the grasses can be directly absorbed by the grass and weeds are naturally reduced.

As we reduce the growth base for weeds, we foster the starting point for high quality grass stock with a high percentage of clover. As treated manure has no caustic effect on the sward, there is no need to sow additional grass seeds to close any gaps in the stock.

The benefits of using effective microorganisms on your crop include:

  • Improved soil health and fertility, increased organic activity in soil and reduced erosion

  • Increased humus development, moisture and nutrient retention capacity is improved

  • Increased plant resistance, less pathogenic fungal diseases

  • Stimulation of root growth with rich, high quality yields and strong yields even in drought periods

  • Reduction in toxic residue on crops and no groundwater pollution

  • Faster heating of soil meaning an earlier start to the growing season

  • Plants contain more antioxidants and bioactive substances such as vitamins and trace elements.

  • Fertiliser costs are reduced as the availability of organic and inorganic nutrients in the soil to the plant are increased

  • Operational costs are reduced whilst at the same time quality and yield are increased
